Abstract A random prospective study comprising four groups of women of reproductive age was performed to determine the incidence of uterine malformation in the LaCrete population. Methods The study population of 800 women, with a mean age of 31 years, was scanned using 2-D abdominal and transvaginal sonograms during the period 2003-2006. All participants in the random sample gave informed written consent and the ethics committee of the education counselling service, High Level, approved the study. A sub-group of 156 participants was identified with suspected uterine malformations and they were referred for further diagnostic investigations. Result In the study population 19.5% showed some form of structural uterine malformations which is 5.5 times higher than that in the general population. The data were tabulated according to types of malformation and percentages in the four groups. The incidence of uterine malformations in the infertile Groups 3 and 4 was 60.8% whereas it was 39.2% in the fertile Groups 1 and 2.The p <0.01 was significant at 95% confidence interval. Conclusion This study provides new insights regarding the number of uterine malformations in the LaCrete population.Published
